Top invoicing software in Norway

Choosing the right invoicing software matters. Whether you are a freelancer, sole proprietor, or small business owner in Norway, the right tool saves you time and keeps you compliant with Norwegian regulations.

What to look for in invoicing software

Norwegian invoicing software needs to meet specific legal requirements. At a minimum, your tool should generate invoices that comply with the Bookkeeping Act (Bokforingsloven), including sequential invoice numbers, correct VAT calculations, and proper seller and buyer information. Beyond compliance, you want a tool that is easy to use, affordable, and fits your workflow.

Key features to consider include EHF support (electronic invoicing for public sector clients), integration with your bank, automatic VAT reporting, and the ability to send reminders for overdue payments. If you work with international clients, multi-currency support is also valuable.

Fiken

Fiken is one of Norway's most popular accounting and invoicing tools, especially among sole proprietors (ENK) and small businesses (AS). It offers a comprehensive accounting system alongside invoicing, which makes it a good fit if you need full bookkeeping capabilities.

Fiken supports EHF invoicing, bank integration, and automatic VAT reporting to Altinn. The interface is clean and well-designed. Pricing starts at around 149 NOK per month for the basic plan, making it affordable for most freelancers. However, Fiken requires you to have your own registered company to use it.

Tripletex

Tripletex is a more feature-rich platform aimed at small to medium businesses. It includes invoicing, project management, time tracking, and full accounting. Tripletex is a strong choice if you have employees or manage multiple projects.

The platform supports EHF, bank reconciliation, and extensive reporting. Pricing is higher than Fiken, typically starting around 399 NOK per month, which may be more than a solo freelancer needs. Like Fiken, you need your own company to use Tripletex.

Payout Partner

Payout Partner takes a different approach. Rather than being a traditional accounting tool, it is an invoicing and payment platform specifically designed for freelancers. It works whether you have your own company or not.

If you have an ENK or AS, Payout Partner provides free invoicing software that meets all Norwegian requirements. If you do not have a company, Payout Partner acts as your invoicing entity: you create the invoice, the client pays Payout Partner, and you receive the money as salary after tax deductions. This means you can start invoicing immediately without registering a business.

Payout Partner handles EHF invoicing, payroll calculations, employer's tax (AGA), income tax, and reporting to the tax authorities. There is no monthly fee — the service takes a percentage of each invoice for salary users, and invoicing is free for company users.

Which one should you choose?

The best choice depends on your situation. If you have your own company and need full accounting, Fiken or Tripletex are solid options. If you are a freelancer without a company, or if you want to start invoicing without the overhead of setting up a business, Payout Partner is the simplest path.

Many freelancers start with Payout Partner to handle their first assignments, and then transition to their own company with Fiken or Tripletex once their volume grows. Payout Partner's free invoicing tool also means you can keep using it alongside other accounting software if you prefer.
